Borrowed from the Samoan word tatau, tattooing has been a part of our culture for thousands of years. Dating back to the fourth to fifth millennium BC, Otzi the Iceman was discovered to have had 57 markings on his skin, consisting of dots and lines. It has only been within the last 20 years that tattoos have become more socially acceptable. According to a recent survey roughly 36 percent of Americans have one or more tattoos.
